I decided to start running a few "solar tests" to try to confirm that having the cardboard window heater and styrofoam reflector in place actually generated some real heat in the house, or at least in the room itself. To do this I closed the door to the room with this south-facing window and after putting the heater and reflector in place took separate temperatures in the room and in the rest of the house. Each test was done on a day with mostly clear skies and full sun, as close to noon as possible.
